Samuel Pepys: a life in music
Thursday 5th February 2015, 5:00pm
After the success of Defleo’s Musica Pepysiana concert at Magdalene last year, the group returns at the invitation of the college’s Pepys Librarian to perform music from the library, including rarely-heard guitar songs by Pepys’s music master Cesare Morelli, along with pieces by Henry Purcell, Pelham Humfrey, Francesco Corbetta and Christopher Simpson.
The Pepys Library will be open from 2:00pm to 4:45pm, where the famous diaries, and many manuscripts and books featured in tonight’s event, will be on view. The performance will be introduced by David Timson, with readings by Leighton Pugh and music for harpsichord played by Jonathan Hellyer-Jones. A reception will be held for all guests and performers after the event.
Tonight also sees the launch of the Green Man Press publication of Morelli’s guitar songs for Pepys, edited by Dionysios Kyropoulos.
